Art
Overview
At Charlton Manor, our high-quality art and design education should engage, inspire and challenge pupils, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design inspired by a range of artists, architects and designers in history.
As pupils progress, they should be able to think critically and develop a more rigorous understanding of art and design through the sequenced, planned lessons. Our curriculum is adapted, designed and developed for all pupils to access. It explores how art and design both reflect and shape our history, and contribute to the culture, creativity and wealth of our diverse nation.
Pupil Voice
'I put different coloured paint on my leaf and pressed them so when they come off it looks like a butterfly.'
'We made 3D art by drawing and colouring our hand, we used oil pastels to colour in using warm and cool colours.'
‘We have been practicing our shading and then learnt how to do cross hatching, counter hatching and blending better.’
‘We have done research on RS Lowry, we used his dark style artwork to create our own artwork.’
‘I drew a butterfly, I used lines to help with proportion. I looked at a photo of a butterfly to help me create my own design. I used blending and shading.’
‘We created our own Island paintings using watercolours. I used pens and pencils for the detailed part, for the grass details I used a bristly paint brush.’
