Eco Conference

Over the past few years the world has finally started to wake up to the extent of the climate and ecological breakdown. We now recognise these twin crises as an existential threat to the prosperity of life on earth. There is no issue of greater importance to young people as it is something that is threating their future. This raises a number of questions about the education system and how we prepare our children for an uncertain future. A recent survey showed that 69% of teachers believe that there should be more teaching about climate change in schools, while 75% don’t feel that they have received adequate training to educate students about it; further adding to the pertinence of the issue. We need to create an education system which delivers the knowledge, skills and opportunities needed to tackle the climate crisis.

This conference will explore what kind of education system we need to tackle the climate emergency, the knowledge we as educators need to deliver this and how we organise to achieve it. Teachers and educators will share best practise and initiatives that have already taken place in schools, explore pedagogical approaches to the climate crisis and discuss ways to make schools more sustainable. All speakers will bring a breadth of knowledge and practical examples about how schools can teach children about the climate crisis and strive to a more sustainable society by starting in schools.

There will be a fantastic range of excellent speakers including:

  • Headteachers
  • Teachers
  • Climate Change Experts
  • Activists
  • Politicians
  • Academics
  • Scientists
  • CEOs
  • Charities
  • NGOs

If you are an educator in any sector from early years to post 16 education and want to be part of making the change we need in our education system to respond to the climate crisis this conference is for you. If you are a young person, parent or activist who wants to be part of changing our education system book your place. This conference will be the first of its kind happening in the Royal Borough of Greenwich and will bring educators from near and far together to use as inspiration to organise for greater change at school level.

We hope this conference will:
1. Drive a paradigm shift so people recognise the climate emergency
2. Celebrate and expand schools’ response to the climate crisis
3. Inform and inspire educators to lead on changes in their schools and institutes
